Life Comes at You Fast...

And when it hits you, it can be devastating. I know this from experience because almost 2 years ago I lost a friend to suicide, and a few years prior a drunk driver killed another friend. It was tough, as all death is, but somehow we find our way through the hurt, tears and sadness and grow as individuals because of it.

However there is no greater reality check than death to make you reassess everything in your life. This weekend my family received news that my sister's friend had died of a heart attack. This was horrible news, and my sister who is the strongest person I know was left in shambles. I know people have heart attacks and that's a fact of life, but when you're an athletic 18 year old it shouldn't be happening to you. I'm not going to say much more on this story because it's not mine to share, but it really does make you stop and think about life, health, and mortality.

Then yesterday while coming home from the Ex, Greg received news that the town where half his family lives was destroyed by a tornado. Really world? Why are we getting tornadoes in Canada? Luckily none of his family members were hurt but to see the destruction of this small town is heartbreaking. So many people lost businesses, historic buildings were destroyed, and a handful of houses were damaged too. I can't imagine how hard it would be to lose everything in a matter of minutes and so my heart goes out to everyone living there.

Oh and as a final thought, the media just announced while I was writing this post that one of Canada's most amazing politicians has passed away from his second battle with cancer at the age of 61. Jack Layton has always been my favourite politician and someone who I am proud was Canadian. He's the kind of politician you could relate to and in my opinion actually had Canadian values at the heart of his agenda. Thanks Jack for always caring about Canada.

...Man has my world been rocked this week. I think I have a lot to think about.
