I Need Your Fashion Expertise

So I'm going to a wedding *cough*tomorrow*cough* and I still have no idea what to wear. It's an outdoor wedding in the afternoon and her theme is kind of like a garden party.

I have this dress I'd love to wear (it's the same as the ivory lace one I wore here), but my biggest problems are 1. I never know how to accessorize and 2. I need to wear a cardi because I hate my arms. The only thing I worry about is, are cardigans too casual for a wedding?

Pretty much what I'm asking is:

blog lovelymissmegs megs camping

I figure you guys are waaaay more fashionable than I am so you would know what to do!

If you want to help me out, leave a comment describing how you would style this dress, or you can make a polyvore set if you're the type of person who likes visuals. You'll find the dress in the Set maker if you click on dresses and then search H&M.

Oh boy, I sure do leave things to the last minute don't I?

I made it to the next round!

blog lovelymissmegs megs camping
I just received an email from Yummy Jobs that said I've made it to the next round for the Disney Cultural Representative job! Up next is a phone interview! How exciting! I've never done a phone interview and am SUPER awkward to talk to over the phone, but here's hoping I'm good enough for them to want to send me to the third round which means I get to travel to Montreal for an in person interview.

Oh boy. Fingers crossed all goes well.

Also, I'm dying my hair today... I need a change from the red. I've had it for 5 years now.... can you guess what colour it's going to be?

Camping! (image heavy)

Luuuucy, I'm home! And boy am I ever sunburned. Ouch! Camping was lots of fun though. I really don't know what I was so nervous about.

Our first day there was kind of a lazy day where we set up everything and then relaxed. The boys put up the tents and Laura and I organized all the baskets of stuff. We then had some dinner, made a fire and ate some smores. yum! We were even lucky enough that the rain didn't come til after we all went to bed. So thank you mother nature for being so co-operative this weekend!

The second day, Greg's aunt, his cousin Liz and her boyfriend Nathan came up and we all spent the day hanging out. First we went to the lighthouse and skipped rocks into the water. Then we checked out different nature trails; one through the forest and one through the marshlands. There were so many cool mushrooms and moss growths I wanted to take pictures of, but everyone was walking super fast so I didn't get the chance to take many. I did find lots of tiny acorns though and a perfect blue jay feather. I can't wait to add the feather to my scrapbook. It's so nifty!

After our nature walks we headed to the beach to cool off. While there we enjoyed building sand castles, playing with water guns and making tons of bubbles with our bubble wands. It's funny to think that we are a bunch of 20-something year olds participating in the same activities as the 2 and 12 year olds, but sometimes you just have to let your inner kid have fun! All the little kiddies on the beach loved chasing the bubbles too. In fact one of the moms on the beach came up to me and said I was a genius for bringing them and then she thanked me for letting her kids have lots of fun chasing them around the beach. Watching little kids chase bubbles is so adorable!

Once the hunger set in and the sunburns were getting to be painful, we packed up and headed back to camp where Greg's parents surprised us with pizza they grabbed on their way back from town. We then played a game Greg's mom made up called Fireball which consisted of throwing a beach ball back and forth over the fire, bouncing it off the grill over the fire, then seeing how long you could keep it from falling into the fire. What a strange game I know, but it was surprisingly fun. We then had a few drinks, told some stories around the campfire (which the boys turned into a HUGE campfire by throwing all the logs at once in it) then we headed off to bed once the fire was put out.

blog lovelymissmegs megs camping
Needless to say I had a lot of fun and my opinions on camping have definitely been changed. However I think I will always be a cottage girl at heart because I can do all the fun activities you do when camping, yet there is always a comfy bed for you at night verses those uncomfortable air mattresses in a crowded tent.

How was your weekend?

My Favourite Things Monday: Mermaids

For some reason I really seem to be digging mermaids this week. I can't get enough of them. Maybe it's because I'm jealous of their gorgeous flowing hair, who knows.

Lemon Blueberry Bread Recipe

Hey everyone!

Here is the recipe for the lemon blueberry bread I mentioned in yesterday's post. It's super yummy and I can't wait to eat it all when we go camping (shhh, don't tell anyone but I snuck a piece aleady!) haha

blog lovelymissmegs megs bread lemon blueberry recipe baking yummy delicious
Ingredients:

- 1 1/2 cups (195 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons (85 grams) unsalted butter, room temperature
- 3/4 cup (150 grams) granulated white sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
- 1 cup fresh blueberries

(Optional) Lemon Glaze:

- 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated white sugar
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and make sure your oven rack is in the center of the oven. Grease with butter (or spray with non-stick spray) the bottom and sides of your loaf pan.

In one bowl whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt.

In another large bowl beat the butter until softened. Add the sugar and continue to beat until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed. Beat in the vanilla extract and lemon zest. Slowly add the flour mixture (in three additions) and milk (in two additions) alternately, starting and ending with the flour. Mix only until combined. Gently fold in the blueberries.

Scrape the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 55 to 65 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

For optional lemon glaze: (I say optional because it makes the loaf sticky on top and really lemony tasting) Anyways, in a small saucepan, bring 1/4 cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to a boil, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

When the bread is done, remove from the oven and place on a wire rack. Pierce the hot loaf all over with a wooden skewer or toothpick and then brush the top of the loaf with the hot lemon glaze. Cool the loaf in the pan for about 30 minutes then remove from pan and let cool completely on a wire rack. This bread is best served on the day it is made.

Makes 1 loaf.

Also if you're wondering where I got the recipe, it was from this site. I've never made anything from there before, but with the success of this bread I'm thinking I'll have to try more of their recipes in the future.

Happy baking!

Busy Bee on a Hot Day

Oh boy is it ever hot today! In fact, today is the hottest day ever recorded in Toronto history! Yikes!

If I was smart I would have spent today drinking lots of water and chillaxin in my air conditioned house, but let's be serious that didn't happen. Instead I spent 4 hours walking around Toronto to help my friend find an apartment for her and her boyfriend. I didn't mind though, we had fun and that's all that matters.

Now I'm home and finally recovering from the heat but that doesn't mean I'm sitting around doing nothing. Nope! Now I'm off to bake some yummy banana bread and lemon blueberry loaf to bring with me when I go camping tomorrow! I'm still nervous about camping with Greg's family, but I'm going to keep a positive attitude. :) At the very least it will give me an opportunity to take some fun pictures!

Alright, I'm off to get some baking done, but while you're here be sure to check out the guest post I wrote for Maybe Someday We'll Be Smarter. It's all about costumes and cosplaying for beginners (it also has tips that you could use for Halloween costumes!) Check it out, and leave Stephanie some love <3

Have a great weekend guys!!

P.S. I apologize for how incredibly awkward the wording in this post is. Being dehydrated really has my head feeling loopy. haha

My Favourite Things Monday: Audrey Kawasaki

I have been obsessed with Audrey Kawasaki's art for years because she paints the most hauntingly beautiful girls I've ever seen. Why are they so sad? What are they thinking? I can't help but wonder every time I look.

What I love most about these paintings though is her use of wood and muted colours. I love that all her work is done on cuts of wood and furthermore she uses the wood grain to add soft or bold textures to her art. It has such an organic and calming feel to it. (Look at me sounding all artsy...NOT.)

Anyways, I hope you enjoy these paintings as much as I do!

What I Wore: Vork

A few days ago, Stephanie from Maybe Someday We'll Be Smarter decided she was going to do a series of outfits inspired by the characters from The Guild. When I saw her Vork inspired outfit I was super excited that a fellow blogger loved the guild as much as I did! Then I was like "damn I wish I'd thought of that idea! It sounds like fun!" I told Stephanie I was jealous of her great idea and she replied saying I should make my own Vork inspired outfit. So here it is!

I tried to keep the outfit simple because Vork is a very frugal man and he wouldn't go wasting his money on accessories (or "cheese gouging!")

Outfit Details:

Sweater: Sirens
Dress: Walmart
Belt: Thrifted
Shoes: Payless

Also, since I'm guessing most of you have no idea what The Guild is, I've included a picture of the cast as their online gaming characters:

L to R: Bladezz, Vork, Zaboo, Codex, Clara, Tinkerballa

This was so much fun to do! And I can't wait to see what Stephanie's next character will be. Oh and check out her newest post to hear the super cool thing that happened to her yesterday involving Felicia Day (one of the creators of the guild, the redhead in the picture above, and my all time biggest girl-crush!)

What I Wore: Leaves and Lace

Hey guys!! I just want to say before I share another outfit from The Wardrobe Project, that I am super excited! I officially reached 50 followers yesterday and my mind is blown! Thank you so much to everyone for making my little blog a part of your day and hello to all my new followers!

Ok on with the post! Woo!

blog lovelymissmegs megs outfit lace cream h&m dress
Ah! I love this dress so much! It's the perfect mix of girly and comfy all wrapped up into one! The only downside is I had to break my shopping ban to get it. -fail- And what's worse is I couldn't decide between this or the purple one so I bought both -EPIC fail- Oh well. It just means no more shopping for a while, which I'm ok with since believe it or not I don't like shopping.

This dress was totally worth it though, it's comfy, cute and held up to all the elements when Greg and I went for our hike. Not only did it go through rain, bush-wacking and dirt, it somehow managed to not get dirty or snagged on any branches. I was seriously amazed. The bad part of wearing a dress though was the crazy amount of mosquito bites I got! Last I counted I had 23, and that's just on my legs!

blog lovelymissmegs megs outfit lace cream h&m dress
My other favourite part of this outfit is my necklace. I bought this forever ago for $2 thinking I could use it for a Tudors costume because it reminded me of something Anne Boleyn would wear. However when I put it on this time I noticed it had a crescent-sort of shape to it which also reminded me of Queen Serenity from Sailor Moon. So now every time I wear this necklace I feel all moon-princessy.

blog lovelymissmegs megs outfit lace cream h&m dress
Lastly, I want to talk about how awesome these sandals are! If you know me then you know I live in flats and nothing else. I honestly haven't owned sandals since I was 12 because all the cute sandals are flip-flop style and I can't stand the feeling of things between my toes. Weird right? Well, because of this quirk it has been impossible for me to find nice sandals.... until now!

I found these super comfy Blowfish sandals at a shoe warehouse for only $15! Hells yeah! The coolest thing about these shoes though is the straps. They are made out of brown elastic instead of suede or leather which means no blisters and no having to work them in! These are seriously the best find ever.

Outfit Info:

Dress: H&M
Cardi: Urban Behaviour
Shoes: Blowfish - SO COMFY!
Necklace: Ardene's
Rose Earrings: Claire's
Belt: Thrifted

Picnic Pictures

Just thought I'd share a few pictures from my picnic yesterday. While there Greg and I saw lots of cool things like baby Canadian Geese, baby swans, a deer and adorable chipmunks that crawl right into your hands if you have snacks for them (which we did).

We also took some pictures for The Wardrobe Project which I'll post later this week.

My Favourite Things Monday: Video Games

Oh hai guys!

For this week's MFTM I'm going to share my newest video game favourites. This is by no means a complete list of all my favourites. Instead I chose to keep it more recent so that I could keep the list short.

Let's get this party started shall we?

blog lovelymissmegs megs megan blog link up blogroll
Arkham Asylum: This game is so much fun. I tried it as a demo on Greg's PS3 and was so addicted that when I was done the demo I went out and bought it for my xbox. I think the coolest part of this game is all the character cameos. They have everyone from Clayface to Calendar Man which is awesome if you know what you're looking for. If you're not a huge Batman nerd like me then you still get all the fan favourites like The Joker and Poison Ivy. The only thing I don't like about this game is Harley's outfit. Wtf is up with the purple and red nurse combo? Anyways, I'm super excited for Arkham City to come out soon!

blog lovelymissmegs megs megan blog link up blogroll
Portal 2: I've already mentioned once how much I love this game but I'm going to say it again. The co-op in this game is so awesome! And I love the personalities of the two robots. They are hilarious.

blog lovelymissmegs megs megan blog link up blogroll

Little Big Planet 2: I never played the first one, but I wish I had. This game is a lot of fun because of all the customization you can do in it! I love making adorable little sack people and you can even make and play your own levels. I'm currently in the middle of playing this game, and I really don't see an end in sight, but if I ever get to the end (?) then I'll let you know how the whole game is. So far it's awesome!

blog lovelymissmegs megs megan blog link up blogroll
Katamari Forever: Nothing is a better cure for a mentally exhausting day than this game. It involves no thinking because all you do is roll a katamari (a giant ball-type thing) around various worlds collecting odds and ends until you've reached a certain size or the time limit you've been given. It's seriously SO easy to play yet SO addicting (I blame the music). I think I finished Katamari Forever in 2 nights. The characters are all adorable too.

blog lovelymissmegs megs megan blog link up blogroll
Dead Rising 2: This is another game where I never played the first one but I wish I had. The basic gist of this game is you are a guy named Chuck and you run around killing zombies non-stop while the plot progresses. This game is seriously AWESOME because of all the super cool weapons you can create. Have a box of nails and a bat? No problem, put them together and you have a spiked bat to beat zombies off with. Got a kayak paddle and chainsaws? Simple, duct tape them together and you get the badass Paddle Saw pictured above! I swear if this game was just making weapons I would still buy it, but throw in killing off giant hordes of zombies and you have yourself a wicked good time!

What are some of your favourite things this week?
